ALGONQUIN - Four more stores soon could be under construction in the second phase of the Algonquin Commons shopping mall.

Jim Pratt, senior property manager for Algonquin Commons, said Circuit City and Petsmart soon will be built north of Galyan's Sporting Goods. Wickes Furniture also will located in the mall in front of Circuit City and Petsmart.

Pratt said mall officials are negotiating with Office Max to fill another of the six spaces in the second phase of mall construction.

"We're going to start [building] Circuit City in about two weeks," said Pratt, who added that Wickes Furniture could be under construction in December.

Algonquin Commons opened last week. When finished, it will have more than 70 stores, including 12 restaurants. Thirty-five stores opened last week, and Pratt said six more are expected to open this weekend.

The Algonquin Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday unanimously recommended that the village board approve the Phase II construction plan.

Assistant Village Manager Jeff Mihelich said the village board will talk about the proposal at its Oct. 26 Committee of the Whole meeting.

The new shopping center so far has been a hit with consumers. Officials at Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate, the mall's owner, said sales have exceeded goals at some stores.

Several restaurants are being built, and Pratt said some are expected to be open in a few weeks.
